What is Ventrilo and why is it used
Ventrilo is a voice communication program allowing users to connect to a central server and chat with other users much like a conference call. Ventrilo is the next generation of group communication softwares like Voice over IP( VoIP) .Ventrilo is known for it’s superior sound quality and minimal use of CPU resources so as not to interfere with day to day operations of the computer or during online game competitions.Ventrilo is quite famous among the Gamers and they call it Vent. Gamers use this software to comminicate with other gamers while playing the game.

Ventrilo is a freeware client which operates in Windows and Mac OS X. It can also be used in linux but you will have to install Wine and then use it.The main codes supported by Ventrilo are GSM Full rate and speex.
Ventrilo provides surround sound positioning and special sound effects on a per user, per channel, per server or global configuration level. This helps users to configure their own settings and enjoy the voice messages from other users.
Ventrilo client has a very simple design so that every users can simply change their configuration and use it. All you will need is the server IP, port and password (if there is a password needed to join) of the Ventrilo Server you are joining.
Example: IP/Hostname: vent1.comptalks.com PORT: 8000 Password: mypass

hey i just foudn this product – Voxli. works just like Ventrilo but you don’t need to set anything up . Works in a webpage
I deff need to get this..would you happen to know if it can be used in linux..
and about how much would it cost me?
