All in all…
It is a more polished release from Ubuntu after rather unfinished 11.04. Unity has seen several performance and usability enhancements to strengthen it’s stance in the on-going “war of desktop interfaces” in Linux. There is no questioning the default applications on the CD. So highly recommended install for anyone who uses 11.04 currently. Unity haters can stay away and ponder options like Lubuntu which certainly looks a viable alternative.
We really appreciate the work gone into 11.10 from the awesome Ubuntu community. Time to look forward to 12.04 LTS !!

LXDE/Lubuntu is definitely the best Gnome 2 alternative I’ve been able to find. I’ve switched both my laptop and desktop over to it. Unity is still a bit unstable for me.
sweet, might have to throw this on an old laptop this weekend.

The new release is great. I still can’t get used to the new Unity desktop though. I like many others have switched to Linux Mint.
