Tweetbot from the house of tapbots has been around for quite some time. It is one of the most popular twitter clients available on the iOS platform. The client is extremely popular amongst iPhone and iPad users. However, so far there was no support for Mac OS. The track record of many popular twitter client developer says that they prefer to release the application for all handheld, palm held and lap top device. It means that they have been made available on iPhone, iPad and MacBook respectively. Likes of Twitterific, Echofon and TweetDeck had been around for sometime now.

Tweetbot received huge applause from the tech savvy iOS community. It offered some of the most unique gestures to improve the overall functionality of the twitter. It changed the way people used to handle twitter on smartphone. Later, many popular clients followed the suite to incorporate gestures in the client itself. Even android community and Windows Phone community followed them quickly (for example Rowi, Carbon twitter clients).

Tweetbot for Mac

Tweetbot has just been announced for the availability of public consumption. However, there is a string attached to it. It is currently in public alpha stage, which means that it is prone to unknown bugs and crashes. It may crash without any reason or could force you to kill the task consequently. It is rightly said

Fortune favors the brave

For a limited period of the time tweetbot has been distributed to the Apple Mac OS community for free. Alpha version doesn’t mean that it is highly unstable. It just isn’t ready for the prime time exposure. Let’s move ahead and see what it has to offer to us

Interface

Tweetbot brings overwhelmingly simple UI on the table. Developers of tweetbot are known to provide pixel perfect graphic in their application. Well, same is the case with this Mac OS version as well. The UI resembles to Echofon or twitterrific in the sense it follows the minimalistic approach rather than overwhelming approach adopted by TweetDeck.

The left hand pane houses DM, mention, email, favorite, search, contact, list, RT options. Based on the selection right pane will display appropriate columns. Instead of following column based approach by TweetDeck, tweetbot developer has approached too common windows based approach. It opens a new windows on ‘call to action’. The right hand pane also displays the thumbnail of the images for quicker understanding. Clicking on the media like images, videos will open a popup windows displaying them in its full dimension.

Preference

Not all features have been integrated into tweetbot yet. Users can add multiple twitter account, decide URL shortening service, image upload service, video upload service etc. There is also an option to add favorite tweets directly to Read Later account. It will save the links to Read Later clients like instapaper, read it later (now pocket). Same setting could be applied to all twitter accounts or you can chose them individually.

Features

Tweetbot has inline image viewer. There are also plethora of options available here. Users can choose options like save, copy, view website or copy link options from here. Tweeting from tweetbot us tad easy. Features like multiple Windows is not present in this version yet but it will be there when the final version is out. Mute function or filters are also missing. It would have been good if developer would have provided that feature in the alpha version itself. Lack of keyboard shotcodes is also a glaring issue. However, developers have promised to bring more elegant solution to the problem. Themes or other color schemes are not present, which ultimately force you to live with the dark black theme. This is something missing in most of the twitter client for Mac.

Tweetbot will also sync with your iPhone or iPad client. This way you can work on any Apple device without being intervened.

Overall, tweetbot for Mac is very identical to its counterpart iOS app. Developers have done an excellent job in maintaining each and every minute detail. As you would expect, it takes time and efforts to develop an application. It will be a paid application whenever developer decides that it is time to push the plug in the iTunes store. What are you waiting for guys? Go grab this awesome twitter client while it is free.
