Nowadays storage controllers are used to connect hard drives in all types of computer systems. Various interface protocols can be used by a storage controller in order to communicate with the hard drive. In order to provide compatibility with most of the computer systems in the market, the manufacturing companies configure the systems in BIOS. These systems configured in BIOS can use IDE interface to connect with the SATA hard drives. This configuration may sound okay to any average computer user but for an advanced user this configuration is not a good option. The IDE interface lacks compatibility with the new age technologies like hot-plugging hard drives (a new craze in the market).
Advanced Host Controller Interface or AHCI has been introduced in the market by Intel.Unlike IDE this AHCI is compatible with the new age technologies and can be used with the SATA hard drives. This new invention by Intel is a must try for all the tech savvy guys out there.
Previously the users were facing an error while converting their storage interface to AHCI.Most of the users experienced a blue screen and the only way to correct it was restoring the previous settings. This error occurs due to the storage driver installed in the Windows.AHCI driver is not present in the windows.Only the IDE is enabled and installed in the Windows system.Due to this problem Windows shows an error 0x0000005B.
I will show you below exactly how to convert to AHCI in BIOS and your computer system will boot like it always used to.
1.Open Registry Editor or go to:Start->Run->Type “regedit”. In the Registry Editor
2.Right click on Start on the left of REG DWORD and then click on “Modify”.
3.A dialog box will appear. In this box give the value as “0” under “Value Data” and click OK.
4.Start is modified to the value “0” now.
5.Reboot your computer and configure your BIOS for AHCI settings.
Note:In case your having a different interface on your system then you can try the following steps:
1.In the Registry Editor find either of these registries:
2.Now perform steps 2-5.
Hope you guys find this bit of information helpful.
