Hacking films are really exciting to watch and the viewers who are passionate about hacking like me, they love to watch them again and again.  Although there are plenty of hacking movies but over the due course of this article we’ll be listing top 10 hacker movies of all the time. Before I get into the list I would like to share my personal opinion, movies like Matrix and other tech-action films are not hacking films.

We’re beginning this list with a popular hacking movie Takedown. This film was released in the year 2000 and is based upon a book- takedown.  The story is about capture of a popular technology hacker- “Kevin Mitnick”. Directed by Joe Chappelle, this movie is 96 min long and has an average rating of 6.0 out of 10.

The next in our list is movie- 23 which is based upon a true story. The story revolves around three young males from Germany (Hannover) who are passionate computer hacking. Directed by Hans-Christian Schmid, this movie is 99 min long and has good rating of 7.2 out of 10.

The next in our list is a complex thriller movie- Sneakers. Released on 1992, this movie is based upon cryptography, Government secrets, encryption, decryption and computers. It is pretty long film of 126 mins.Directed by Phil Alden Robinson, this movie has good rating of 7.0 out of 10.

Hackers” is next in our list which was released long time ago in 1995. The story revolves around a young boy who was a hacker and for coding a dangerous computer virus; he was arrested by US secret service. After that US secret service impose a ban on him and doesn’t allow him to use a computer till his 18th birthday. Directed by Iain Softley, this movie has average rating of 5.9 out of 10.

The next in our list is Anti-trust.  The movie revolves around a computer programmer who discovers that his boss is involved in illegal anti-trust matters which turned his dreamed job into a nightmare. Directed by Peter Howitt, this movie is 109 min long and has good rating of 7.0 out of 10.

The next in our list is a complex hacker movie-War Games. The movie revolves around a man who discovers a back door in a central computer of military where he gets confused with the game playing. Directed by John Badham, this movie is 114 min long and has good rating of 7.0 out of 10.

The Sword fish is a great movie where a hacker tries to steal millions of corrupted money of US Government.Directed by Dominic Sena, this movie is 99 min long and has average rating of 6.4 out of 10.

The net is a semi-old movie released back on 1995. The story revolved around Angela Bennett’s who was intelligent software engineer and works for  her friend from her home.Directed by Irwin Winkler, this movie is 114 min long and has average rating of 5.7 out of 10.

The Tron movie revolves around a hacker who was kidnapped and illegally thrown into a computer where he was forced to playgladiatorial games and he has to escape himself from there by cracking down security.   Directed by Steven Lisberger, this movie is 96 min long and has average rating of 6.7 out of 10.

The last in our list is “Pirates of silicon valley”. This movie is based upon the history of Microsoft and Apple.Directed by Martyn Burke, this movie is 95 min long and has good rating of 7.1 out of 10.
