Tips To Prevent DLL Errors On Your PC

“Prevention is better than cure” – this old saying applies aptly to computer errors. The time and effort that goes into preventing common computer errors, such as DLL errors, is considerably less than what goes into resolving them. And not to mention the loss of productivity and feeling of frustration that comes along with any computer error.

While not all computer errors can be prevented, many of the errors, especially the ones related to software can be easily prevented. One type of common software error that can be avoided is the DLL error.

In this article, we will share tips that will allow you to minimize the occurrence of common DLL errors, such as the owsupp.dll, olmapi32.dll, and winhttp.dll errors.

Install reliable protective software

Malware programs, such as worms, Trojans, rootkits, and viruses are the root cause of a majority of Windows errors and DLL errors are no exception. To minimize the chances of DLL errors such as owsupp.dll, olmapi32.dll, and winhttp.dll errors, you must prevent malware programs from gaining entry into your computer. To do this, you need to install advanced antivirus as well as antispyware programs and schedule regular malware scans on your entire computer.

Regularly clean Windows registry

Given the critical nature of Windows registry, it is not surprising that a lot of Windows errors occur because of issues in registry. To prevent registry issues from developing, regularly clean your registry. You may use the services of an advanced registry cleaner to accomplish this. The benefits of cleaning your registry include better performance of your Windows computer and reduction in computer application errors like DLL errors.

Install/uninstall programs carefully

Incorrect installation or uninstallation of programs also cause DLL errors. When you install a new program, ensure that you don’t overwrite a current version of a DLL file with an older version. Also, if you are installing a program using an installation disc, you should check to be sure that the disc is not scratched or damaged. Although, you may be able to install a program with a damaged disc, it may cause errors later on when you try to run the program.

Similarly, follow the correct procedures while uninstalling a program. Care should be taken not to remove a shared DLL file during the uninstallation process.

Update your Windows files

Microsoft regularly releases new updates for its operating systems. By installing these updates, you not only improve your computer’s security and performance, but you also help in avoiding various PC errors, including DLL errors.

If you use Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP operating systems, you must enable the Automatic Updates feature to have new Windows updates automatically downloaded onto your computer.

It is not enough to only keep the Windows files updated. You may also receive DLL errors if your driver or software files are not updated. So, do not forget to periodically update your software and driver files. To keep your driver files automatically updated, you may use reliable third-party driver scanner software.

Take care when deleting files

Removal of DLL files by mistake also cause recurring DLL errors. This generally happens when you accidentally delete a file that has a name similar to a DLL file. To avoid this from happening, double-check the name of the file that you intend to delete.

By following these simple prevention tips, you can minimize the occurrence of DLL errors and improve the efficiency of your Windows computer.
