A tablet personal computer or tablet PC is a tablet-sized computer that also has the key features of a full-size personal computer. The term was made popular with the Microsoft Tablet PC concept presented by Microsoft in 2001. Today, the term tablet is also used to refer to computer like devices operated primarily by a touch screen but not intended to run general PC operating systems or applications.
When first iPad and Fusion garage JooJoo were released within days of each other in early 2010,the world got its first real taste of tablets or in short it was dawn before storm of quality tablets which would follow in future. At the high end, the iPad and now iPad 2,is the benchmark tablet to beat, with top-notch seamless design paired with a robust app store. Several other brands like Motorola, Galaxy, HP, Blackberry have entered this market and have added to the competition.
Should you buy a Tablet PC instead of Computer?
Truly speaking tablets are not filling any true need right now. They are neither replacements for full-fledged computers nor smart phones. A tablet is a touch screen device which is very similar to advanced portable media player or a MP3 player with a much larger screen. Many of them have mobile service features but none of them can make calls via traditional service provider. While you can get your work done on a tablet, you won’t get quality desktop grade OS like on PC.
Features to look for while buying tablets:-
OPERATING SYSTEM
Apple’s iOS is the mobile platform used by iPad, as well as iPhone and iPod Touch. The OS works similar to iPhone with certain tweaks and enhancements here and there to take advantage of 9.7 inch screen.
Google mobile’s OS android is a different story. There are several versions of android but only Android 3.0 is designed specifically for tablets. It features an improved visual multitasking bar than iOS as well as superior e-mail notifications.
APPS
Android lacks a strong selection of apps. Even with newly announced Amazon store, the number of android 3.0 friendly apps that work well is low. The bottom line is simple, if you want lot of apps for your tablet, right now there is nothing that beats iPad.
SIZE AND SPACE
The screen size refers to diagonal size of screen, not the dimension of screen. Apple continues to ship at 9.7 inch only. Motorola Xoom and Galaxy tab is available at 10.1 inch.
Right now the maximum storage is 64 GB. Most of the tablets are available at 16/32/64 GB varieties.
WI-FI ONLY VS CELLULAR MODELS
Most tablets come with Wi-Fi only model or to pay by month for 3G.Check specifications carefully before buying.
CAMERAS AND VIDEOCHATTING
Many tablets have front and rear facing camera for taking stills and for video recording. Inclusion of front camera means offering video chat features. Google Talk for android 3.0 is a top-notch app, simple to use and operates via Google Accounts. You can chat with anyone who also has a Google account.
Apple’s FaceTime works similarly well but is limited to certain Apple products making it far less versatile than Google Talk.

featurewise acer is a very good model.
The only con it might have now of present is the availabilty of large number of good quality apps.
I agree that tablet’s don’t seems to have specific need as of now but i feel like in the near future it can and will replace anything on it’s own.
Comparitively bigger tablets are coming now and these with 10 inch and above display can replace laptops especially for travelling people.

I totally agree with you Mr custom stickers ,tablets never finished the importance of PC..
In my opinion the tablet just compliments your PCM especially if you go down the apple road as all there products are made so they link to each other so well. Maybe that’s why apple have you hooked once you buy one of there products you never go back to anyone else???
