Yeah, you read that right. Goa government would be the first state Govt. in India to bestow such generousness upon the students.

Its an initiative by the Goa Govt Education Dept. to familiarize Class V and VII students. Director of Education (Goa Govt.), Mr. Anil Powar added,
” (The tablets would) prepare them for the life ahead and get them curious about the e-systems”
He further said,
“General category students will have to pay only Rs.25 while SC and ST students will have to pay Rs.10 to register for the scheme,”
I didn’t see that coming. Anyways, the tablets wouldn’t be the so hyped Aakash Tablets which till now, aren’t seen anywhere. Instead, the state government is purchasing 50,000 tablets for distribution. The maker and build aren’t disclosed yet, and would be through the regular tender system.
The tablets, would not be completely ‘free’ but would have inbuilt security systems installed to to ensure that the computers are not misused for pornographic purposes and other controversial web applications. A no objection certificate will also be taken from parents stating that they are OK, with the Govt. giving their children tablets. (Duh, who wouldn’t be OK?)
Now, the word controversial seems ambiguous to me, It can also be interpreted as providing the students a platform of vast knowledge (read, the Internet!) and then censor it to the Govt.’s pleasing. Either way, this will help the the students in their studies a lot.
Its a great step though, and in the long run, can be very useful.

Thank you for nice article. it is very helpful for student.
Goa government are doing fine job for students . By giving a tablets of cost 25 rupees only. And also government protecting the child by watching pronography and other harmfull website by instally security in the tablets
Rs.25 ? Am I on Earth ? Dead Cheap ! Anyway Awesome :)
