The new Galaxy Tab 750, AKA Galaxy Tab 10.1 has just been launched in India amongst a lot of fan fare, and without wasting much words, I’ll  come straight to the point. This beauty, with a Sherlock Holmes’ Brain, is an iPad killer. That is the best part: I’ll repeat it, its an iPad killer.

So what makes this an iPad killer you ask? Read on to find out.

Hardware

The first thing that a tablet should have is an amazing screen: the Tab has a 10.1 inch, which is larger than the other tablets available (including the iPad 2) and also has a higher resolution at 1280×800. Bigger size and resolution means most of the websites will won’t have problem opening in your tab’s inbuilt browser and you won’t need website specific apps.

So the bigger size, must mean more bulky?

Not really. Samsung has pushed its R&D department, to get something slimmer than the iPad 2, while weighing lighter as well. Sure, it has plastic instead of Aluminium, but the Plastic too has a premium feel to it, and there is no need to worry about the build quality. Also, its because of the plastic that its lighter, and we are not complaining.

Talking about cameras, this has a 3MP camera at the back, with autofocus, and capable of 720p movie recording, and a 2MP shooter up front. The picture quality is impressive, and on par with the other tablets available out there. The tab also has the full motion sensing kit, complete with gyroscopes for awesome gaming, and a couple of tricks on the UI.

Android users are not very fond of their battery life, but Samsung has been a pretty good job by providing a battery, and awesome power management that lasts around 10 hours of video playback.

But lets face it, these are not the reasons you buy a tablet. You buy a tablet for the experience. And this is where the Samsung Galaxy Tab outshines everything on the market, including the iPad. Powered by a NVIDIA Tegra 2, 1GHz Dual Core SoC, everything is just fast.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 750 offers connectivity through HSPA+, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi Direct.

Software

You might not be Android fan boy, but you will certainly love the features that Honeycomb 3.1 offers to you. It’s far more open than any other tablet OS out there in the market and you can customize it in your own way. So, its a great plus point for any g33k like me.

The Samsung TouchWiz UX, the skin on top of Android Honeycomb 3.1, doesn’t really seem to be slowing it down, while providing loads of additional functionality like the live panel, media hub, mini apps tray etc.

Live panel offers you a magazine style look in which you add, edit and remove widgets with a single touch whenever you want.

Mini apps tray has a task manager which will help you with better memory management,as most of the times you might have opened several apps simultaneously and you might be draining your Tab’s battery unintentionally.

Another big point in which Android scores over Apple is Flash support. Even after the push for HTML5, a lot of the web is still in Flash, and Galaxy Tab manages to render it beautifully.

Now the verdict: With the price tag of Rs. 36,200, this tablet is a no-brainer, for anyone with a brain, and the willingness to explore beyond iOS. The tablet is slim, sexy, powerful, Open, and Awesome. Quite frankly the war is just between the Tab and the iPad. Right Now, the Tab seems to be winning it.

    basic question
since i m into financial sector can i load my third party software financial management software into it coz it will allow me to not to carru my laptop for presentation purpose and get real time portfolio updates too ….
    please help me on this………..

    • Bishwajeet

If your third party software is in the form of app then you can have it. Also, there are business apps like word and excel there and you can easily create ,view and edit those files for presentation and all.

I considered buying an iPad earlier this year but the thing that put me off was not having a keyboard. This is the same reason that I wouldn’t buy the Samsung.

Still I needed something that was compact so that I could take it with me on business trips and so I settled for the MacBook Air. When closed it’s as small as the pads but when opened it has a full keyboard which is what I prefer.

    • Bishwajeet

Samsung does offer an external keyboard and you can use it with your Tab. I have seen it with the smaller tabs,so I hope this one would also work with keyboard. Also, they give a stand with it so that you can have a laptop feel if you want.

@Bishwajeet: Please be aware of all the things before writng or publishing anything on the web. As you said that Galaxy Tab 10.1 has 3MP back camera, but for your kind information I would like to tell you that it is 8MP.

  4. Tipsum

I think battery management is a big plus with this Galaxy tab. That is kind of heartening because battery with is such a pain with Android. The main use of tabs is to bridge the gap between phones and computers and that was at jeopardy due to the bad battery life.

  5. Vernon

First i really don’t know about tab, what are the other features that can bridge the computer and cellphone.

It is true that samsung tab is a copy of the old model iPad?

  6. Frans PC

Is it true that these products can compete with blackberry, we wait for the competition heats up. Thanks

  7. Someone is Special

  9. sim

    nice review, must say…

  10. Yash Bhatia

Even though the Galaxy Tab 750 is an amazing tablet, it comes nowhere near the iPad 2.
this tablet is amazing for geeks like us (who are awed by the hardware!) but, for the general public the iPad 2 is an amazing tablet, no doubt!

  11. John

The Galaxy looks amazing! but i am pretty sure apple got something up their sleeves, the ipad 3 cant be to far away and apple never seem to hold back in their advances. It also seems they are targeting a bit different audiences but yea the Galaxy tab seems awesome..

  12. Shubham

Nicely framed and executed post ! Best of luck for the contest !

  13. Dr Kenit

  15. Jijo Sunny

Great review about the new Tab. Of course, it’s best feature is it’s OS. Anyways, Well-written bud!

  16. Mayur

    hey.. Bishwajeet
    Nice article on this site..

  17. MicroSourcing

Too bad Samsung lost the lawsuit to Apple in Germany. Their tablet is losing out on sales because of an injunction. They’ll have ti hire the best lawyers they can find.

  18. J Preston

Apple is adept at making less look like more. The Galaxy Tab really does have more. With more Android apps appearing every day Tablets like this one will catch up to the ipad, maybe not kill it but give it a good thrashing.
You have to know that Apple is feeling the pressure by trying to block the Galaxy tab launch.

  19. Mary

Thank you for this review, you write very intresting!

  20. Loc

Even though it might be better then the iPad in every way, non technical people will still flock to buy the iPad because of the hype surrounding it and also because the iPad have a lot more apps then any other tablets out there in the market today.

  21. Sameer

Samsung is getting sued all around the world for infringing on Apple patents. It’s not going to be much of an iPad killer unless it wins those cases.

  22. Cher Shives

I really wanted to get a Samsung galaxy because i think they are really awesome!!

  23. Aiko

The only upper hand of the Galaxy Tab is cost. Overall specs, performance and speed, IPAD2 is still superior. However, no one knows what the later versions will have in store for us :)

  24. andrea

really? i’m having a hard time believing that’s it’s an ipad killer! unless…it’s cheaper, then i understand! but quality related….

  25. Rohit Batra

this galaxy tab is surely a iPad killer.. but still tablet market is growing at a good speed many local telecom providers started to launch their own tablets at much lower price than iPad & Galaxy tab with comparatively same features..

  26. Mushfique

This surely is a killer to the iPad ! but for some reason I prefer motorola xoom!
It’s actually hard to decide which is better but obviously, iPad will always stay at the top!

  27. Anthony

It is normal to for companies to acquire ideas from other products of competing companies. Though it is obvious that Samsung’s new product got its idea from iPad, it is great that they had made some innovations to fit the customers’ needs. The model is really impressive.

  28. James

Samsung is greater in almost every aspect. The company has remained very competitive by improving their products base on customers’ wants. For sure iPad will provide innovations to excel, which is great for the increasing expectation of the market.

  29. icechen1

Shame that Apple managed to ban this gem in Europe.

  30. Salil

  33. Magic of MAking Up

Way cool! Some very valid points! I appreciate you writing this post and also the rest
of the site is really good.

  34. a lot more

theres a lot of people on here that feel the same way probably, its hard to capture an audience’s attention with all these youtube partners. I suggest maybe changing your video genre or doing reviews on more up to date games (not to be offensive, if u like reviewing the games that u do review, then? thats okay still) and if u still dont feel like nobody is paying attention to your videos, then maybe youtube isnt ur thing but dont be hard on urself. here, ill put u in my sub box too.

  35. Devika Singh

It is really killer smart phone and included some extra feature from other mobile.
