Kodak, the pioneer in camera manufacturing industry stunned the world by announcing that it has put an end to its camera business.
By the end of June, Kodak plans to phase out its digital cameras, digital picture cameras ,and pocket video cameras. The company will now divert its attention to brand licensing and on patent marketing.Kodak will still offer its online Kodak Gallery service and retail-based photo printing. Its inkjet printers will be available.
Kodak was the first to bring handheld cameras a century ago .Through much of 1900s,the company was a leader in imaging technology. However, with new members joining the camera market and producing better models ,Kodak fell behind. With the new cameras in mobiles and iPods feature, the handheld cameras lost their importance.
The company has thus gone bankrupt, and had even filed for bankruptcy protection last month. the company hopes to get out from this situation early next year. Hence, the new licensing policy and marketing of patents. The company currently holds over 1,000 digital imaging patents, and an increasing number of companies are looking for access to them.
So, Kodak cameras RIP…

how sad to know that they were not able to cope up with the trends and innovations. I still remember my first childhood exposure to kodak cameras. It was kodak and nikon way back when on those vintage picture taking era. But at the moment they are just being swept away by other brands like Sony, Samsung, Canon and etc.

it’s so sad to hear, but I just noticed that Kodak hasn’t really produced any new cameras to match up with the new ones coming out on the market. These days you have iPhone, DSLR’s and new affordable Canon cameras. I just don’t know though why do they to completely eliminate their products.
Yes no doubt in that Kodak is the leader in imaging technology. Beside that this is very good branded company in all over the world for their products and when i went to market for purchased a new camera then it was my first camera of Kodak company.
