Jar:File not found error in Mozilla firefox
Jun 4th, 2009 | By theworldwinner | Category: internetAre you a Mozilla Firefox user and getting the error Jar:File not found when trying to open some pages. The Url becomes something like this: jar:file///C:/Program files/Mozilla Firefox/chrome/en-US.jar!/locale/browser-region/region.properties.
Its mainly due to Ask.com toolbar and the javascript which comes along with it. You might have installed the ask.com toolbar with some freeware unintentionally, but don’t worry here is the solution.
Methods for removing the error:
- Remove the ask.com toolbar tool->Addons-> unistall the Addon .
- Go to Program files-> Mozilla Firefox -> Components-> Asksearch.js ( If your default installation is at program files) select Asksearch.js and delete the file asksearch.js

- Restart your firefox and enjoy as your firefox will start working now.
- If you have installed any toolbar other than ask.com then check if it is powered by ask.com if yes then disable it and check if you FF is working or not.
- One more option is to install a firefox addon Quickjava which will help you in turning on and off javascript . Install from here

Thanksss, it works
damn I don’t have that “ask” thing and it’s really pissing me off.
There is obviously a lot to know about this. I think you made some good points in this subject. So, just want to say great job!
Double-check your addon list. I didn’t think I had it, because it wasn’t showing up as an option when I right-clicked the toolbars. But sure enough, it was there. And removing it solved my problem.
Pretty cool, I think it’s solved now. Thank you verry much.
Deleted it a while ago.
Problem still occurs regularly.
