Here’s a simple trick that will let you use your spare iOS device, iPhone,iPad,iPod Touch or in this case even a Android device to be used as a Wireless Surveillance Camera. We would be using a few simple apps to turn your device into a wireless surveillance system.

iOS Device as a Network Camera :

Step 1: Download the app “Wireless Camera” app from the app store. It would cost around $2.

Wireless Camera App will start a website on your local network that you can access by pointing your browser to your gadgets IP address.

Step 2 : Next open the app and tweak the setting to meet your preferences. Check “Motion Detection“ and “Add Timestamp“, and check “Enabled” at the top to start the recording from your device.

Step 3: Just place the device wherever you would like it to be placed and it will begin the surveillance.

To access the live feeds from your camera simply by pointing your browser to the address “http://your-device-local-ip-address“. Click on the “View Recorded images” to view the camera recordings. The device address is displayed on the iPhone in the lower right corner.

Android Device as a Network Camera :

Just in case you have a Android device that you are willing to use as  a wireless network camera then do following;

Step 1 : Download the app “Motion detector Pro“ the app is free of cost in android market.

Step 2 : Configure the ideal motion detection threshold to differentiate between the movements you want to record and ambient movements like that of trees etc.

Step 3 : Specify a phone number or email to receive the snapshots, you can even set the app to start when you send in a specific text message.
