To uninstall Internet Explorer 8 in Windows Vista , follow these steps:
1. Close all programs except Windows.
2. Click Start, type Appwiz.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
3. In the Tasks pane, click View installed updates.
4. In the list of installed updates, double-click Windows Internet Explorer 8.
5.In the Uninstall an update dialog box, click Yes.
If you dont find Internet Explorer in the installed updates list then do this:
1.Copy the code in bold:
FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-8*.mum /c “cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart”
- Click Start, and then type Cmd.exe in the Start Search box.
- In the list of programs, right-click Cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator.Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
- Right-click inside the Administrator: Command Prompt window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
- Press ENTER to uninstall Internet Explorer 8. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.
To uninstall Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP , follow these steps:
- Carefully select and then copy the following command:%windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe
- Click Start, click Run, type Cmd.exe, and then press ENTER.
- Right-click inside the Cmd.exe window, and then click Paste to paste the command that you copied in step 1.
- Press ENTER to uninstall Internet Explorer 8. When the uninstall program is finished, restart your computer.

I finally found out how to uninstall Win ie8 from my Vista Home Basic computer (sucky problem right there! I will NEVER have it on a computer again!). But every time I restart my computer, I get “echos” of Win 8 as it opens up to “Welcome to Internet Explorer 8″ and the “Bing” window pops up next to it! I have gone back to the tools function, put in the msn.com main page again and again, cannot find a TRACE of ie8 ANYWHERE on my computer, yet this recurring probleml! i find that IE8 is more stable compared to the previous versions of Internet Explorer, i am pretty much happy with IE8
