Have you ever come across a geek who has challenged you to create a folder in Windows named “con”? And did you failed it miserably? Here is something for you.
Windows doesn’t allow folder names like con, prn, com0, com1, com2, …, com9, aux, nul, lpt1, lpt2, …, lpt9 and many other names. The reason is just that, these words are reserved key words for windows functioning and they want to avoid ambiguity. So if you need a folder with any of these names, you have to clearly tell your computer that you need a folder by that name. Now how do you do it?
- Open command prompt and go to any folder, you like
- Type md con\. Remember the ‘\’ is the most important thing, as it tells your OS, that you are not playing with any program file named con, but you are creating a folder with that name. The same holds for any reserved name!
- Done!
It was as simple as that!
