Soon another blog put up images related to the attack including ones with usernames and passwords.

All users registered with the webite are advised to reset their passwords in other websites if they have reused the passwords. The attack has to be condemned but it sure is a let down from Microsoft.

Features

Chrome Beta for Android has mobile and tablet views and on a tablet it almost looks exactly like the one on desktops. Chrome beta for Android also ships most features just as the desktop version, like for example Google Instant and omnibox. A Link Preview facility is provided to avoid “pecking for links on a web page”.You can also sign into your Google account and sync Chrome over your devices.

Browsing on the go is surely getting better

Opera, Firefox and Chrome can take the browser war onto the Mobile front now. You could as well write off the default Android browser. Certainly browsing on mobiles is surely becoming a better experience.

Firefox 10 is now out with improved CSS3 and HTML 5 support for Developers and solutions to some frequent bugs. With that Firefox 11 enter beta, Firefox 12 enters Aurora Channel and Firefox 13 enters the nightly channel. Firefox 12 has landed a new “new tab” page similar to that of other browsers with speed dials. Do check it out if you love bleeding edge. Now, lets take a look at whats new in Firefox 10.

A new menu system??

Thats right. A new menu system. HUD aims to replace the application menus from the app as well as from the global menu and integrate it along with Unity interface. Under HUD, menu options will be searchable from the Unity dock. Take a look at HUD in action on inkscape:

So to delete an object in Inkscape, one needs to start searching “delete” rather than do Edit > Delete from the menu. The search results under HUD will be personalized too according to what commands you use the most and under what context. HUD is heavily influenced by Enso, a similar application (third party) for Windows XP and Vista. The idea is that user only needs to show his intent and HUD will come up with suggestions of actions. HUD will be a feature in 12.04 release; but traditional menus will be retained. But goal is to get rid of them and make HUD the default menu system.

Yays and Nays

Apparently this decision is going to get criticized quite a bit. Lets take a look at a few pros (+1s) and cons (-1s):

• Easier faster access to actions in programs cluttered with menus like GIMP. +1.
• But then would it not restrict someone’s ability to explore stuff? Would a newbie ever type in “GEGL Tool” into HUD for GIMP? Mark mentions that they are working on this discoverability issue, but for now -1. Simple solution is to retain traditional menus as well.
• More real estate. Lesser clutter. +1
• Really unnecessary for smaller apps. Might turn out to be hinderence. -1. Solution again would be to keep traditional menu.
• Is the world ready? People hate changes. This will seriously affect workflow of several users. A price you have to pay. 0
• The prospect of integrating voice recognition, gesture and touch to HUD is awesome. +1

Want to try it out ??

You can try out HUD only if you are already testing 12.04 which is currently under development. All you need to do is:

• sudo add-apt-repository ppa:unity-team/hud
• sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

So in short, for me, cool feature; but oppose removing the traditional menu system altogether. Wait for it in 12.04 friends !!

The Adam I

TI OMAP over Tegra?

Why not? Amazon and Barnes and Noble took the same choice with Kindle Fire and Nook Tablet respectively with more than impressive results. TI OMAP has a lot to offer. Quoting the company’s pres release:

“The OMAP44xx platform’s smart multicore architecture pairs its main CPUs with several differentiated features including programmable accelerators, hardware composition engines and a dedicated ISP.”

The OMAP distributed composition coupled with PowerVR GPU would mean a great HD experience. Also having the TI bundle (Processor, Wi-Link and Phoenix) might help Notion Ink to price Adam II a bit on the lower side.

The Software Side of Things

Adam II is “designed specifically for best Power Performance and Multi-tasking Experience”. Notion Ink has been openly working on ICS ROMs for Adam for some time now. The Alpha builds were demoed and looked quite OK if not brilliant. There were some issues but more or less acceptable for Alpha build. They had several Tegra specific issues on ICS which might be another reason to swithch to TI OMAP.

The company announced a Modular Based Software architecture which will let apps take full advantage of the hardware. It would also enable one to manupulate apps in a “drag and drop” fashion with an opensource module handling use cases and deplayment on tablet. This could pave way for a cool novice app development platform. The company envisions that Adam II will help “consumers, professionals and students become productive as they will be able to use the tablet as a logic analyzer, medical imaging device, signal acquisition and processing, 3D modeling and multi-media”.

Given that the company has also been working on Kivy libraries for quick application development, I get the sense that there is some focus on app development in this one.

When?

No dates yet. That probably is the right decision too after all that delay with Adam I. Lets hope Notion Ink has learnt a few valuabe lessons from Adam I and wait in patience for an awesome Adam II.

Anyone above 18 is eligible (subject to a few restrictions; see youtube page for full rules) to participate and can submit creations of any genre. The movies should not be longer than 15 minutes though and should not have been publicly demoed befor January 1st. Submissions can be made starting February 2nd.

The Scott Free team will shortlist 50 semi-finalists by June and YouTube users will vote to select the ten movies to go to the 2012 Venice film festival.  A jury led by Ridley Scott will crown the grand prize winner.

Once you open the site, you have to turn off the internet to continue using this website. It’s not rocket science or some complex algorithm that you are looking at. It’s basically a flash based site which cache’s all the website content in the initial download and then it plays from your browser. Any flash based site can do the same,even youtube videos when buffered completely play smoothly even after disconnecting the internet. But the best part of this site that is starts automatically whenever you go offline.

So, basically it’s checking the internet connection regularly and whenever you are connected to internet it displays a message that you are connected to the Internet and if you are not connected to the Internet then you can browse the site.
