Rumor has it that HP and Apple will be launching LED backlit laptops in Q2 of this year. Why is this exciting you ask? Well using LEDs to backlight LCD displays offers increased color saturation and distributes backlight more evenly so you don’t get noticeably different brightness’s at different points of the screen.

Having brighter corners is something I see every now and then on LCD displays using the current cold cathode florescent backlights. LED tech has not been adopted for laptop use in the past out of fear of increased power consumption, but it seems that if the rumor is correct HP and Apple have worked this issue out.
